Law Firm Membership

The National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF), founded in 2001, is a nonprofit trade association comprised of a select group of preeminent minority and women-owned law firms and other interested parties. NAMWOLF is focused on being the leading organization in the legal profession dedicated to diversity through developing lasting partnerships between minority and women-owned law firms and private/public entities.

NAMWOLF actively advocates for the retention of minority and women-owned law firms by public entities and corporations. Meaningful business relationships are created through NAMWOLF events, corporate initiatives and the cultivation of strategic opportunities for our law firms. NAMWOLF stays current on all developments and research regarding diversity and inclusion, corporate and government retention of outside legal services and law firm management and innovation. The organization actively participates in legal conferences advocating for its members and speaking on issues related to increasing diversity within the legal profession. NAMWOLF uses its resources to assist our firms in cultivating lasting relationships through marketing, outreach campaigns, social media and partnership development.

  • Referrals: The latest research on diversity in the legal profession shows that minority and women-owned law firms struggle to make lasting connections with major corporate clients and government agencies. Through our strategic partnerships and initiatives, NAMWOLF strives to connect corporate counsel with NAMWOLF firms who fit their needs.

  • Networking: NAMWOLF brings together corporate counsel and M/WBE (Minority/Women Business Enterprise) law firms at our events which offer face-to-face interaction not found at other industry conferences and events. Additionally, corporate counsel who attend our events network with one another and discuss best practices for diversity and inclusion within their legal departments.

  • Marketing: NAMWOLF produces a variety of nationwide marketing services via materials and correspondence created for corporate counsel. In addition, the NAMWOLF database of law firm members is actively used by corporations in submitting RFPs for legal services and selecting local counsel on a variety of matters. In addition, through our events, law firm members have an opportunity to meet and connect with corporate counsel who desire diversity within their outside counsel representation.

NAMWOLF uses a detailed vetting process to determine law firm admission. NAMWOLF staff performs independent research on each prospective firm focused on a firm’s MBW, WBE and/or LGBT status; reputation; references; any disciplinary action; awards/recognition; and practice area expertise. After the firm’s application is complete and verified, the Law Firm Admissions Committee, comprised of corporate counsel and law firm members, reviews the collected materials and makes a recommendation to the Board of Directors with whom the final decision rests.
